Position:Home>Visual Arts> I won a free engagement photo session. Are proofs included?

Question: I won a free engagement photo session!. Are proofs included!?
I tried to ask the photographer, because I had heard many times about these sorts of scams where they tell you that you "won" something, when it turns out you have to pay for every little thing!. The photographer said that the free session includes the sitting fee and post production work on the images!. Does that mean the proofs are free, too!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am a pro photographer and all "post-production work" means is that you get the session for free, and he/she is not charging you for the time it takes to edit, crop, retouch, etc!. (That is what the normal session fee would cover!. It does take time and skill for both!.)

However, I do agree that you need to ask your photographer specifically!. If he is a true professional (ethically speaking) he will be up front about what is included and not included, and not be offended by you asking!. An educated client is the best kind!.

I would imagine your "free" session is for him to get practice, build his portfolio, and/or do the session for free so you will purchase prints after you see the final product!. (Which, I hope, for your sake is fabulous!)

It is very, very rare that any "free" session will include anything other than time and talent of the photographer!.

I have a lot of potential clients ask me, "Does your session fee include prints!?" Um, no!. It takes someone with skill and experience to produce an incredible end-result, and as such, expect to pay for it!. Someone doing free sessions is either extraordinarily kind, doing it to build a portfolio, or is so horrible at it that they can't justify making people pay!. Thankfully, not many are in the last category!Www@QuestionHome@Com

We cannot tell you this!. You need to again speak with the photographer and ask him / her your question!. Be specific!. We are not your photographer and cannot speak for how someone else does business!. I will guess that you MAY get some low res online proofs, but no tangible prints!. Prints cost money, and you are not likely to get that for free!.

The only person that can answer those questions is the photographer!. You are dealing with that company!. We can't predict what they are offering you!. Be sure to get all the clarification you desire up front!. Don't sit for the photos unless your comfortable with what you're going to get!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would say no!. Find out what "post production work on images" means!. Probably means any touch up work that needs to be done!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
