The best thing to improve this would be to work on your perspective and anatomy!. When drawing from a picture you don't need to know that your drawing the sterno-clydo mastoid muscle, you just draw a line on the neck!. However to draw a figure from your mind you have to know there is a muscle there to include it!.
Find some anatomy books and start doing studies, or if you happen to know where you can borrow a skeleton even better- draw that!.
Learn your proportions!. You need to know the basics, The half way point of the body is the crotch, your elbow comes down just below the ribcage, right above the pevis!. the hand is about the length of the face, The eyes are the halfway point of the head!.
The body is made up of all these common measurements and ratios that will help you draw figures accuratly, it's just a matter of learning them all!.

If you have the opportunity take a life drawing class!. It will teach you very valuable problem solving skills!.

start a sketchbook, get a nice pen and sketch from life!. Draw everything and anything you can see!. Don't worry about it looking pretty, just focus on basic shapes, cylinders cubes egg shapes, practice drawing in a 3 dimensional way!. Think of a finger as a cylinder not as a rectangle!. Sketching is a great way to improve your subconscious knowledge of general principals!. The more you focus on drawing the proportions of a person quickly in a sketch book the more they will be burned onto your brain!.

The best website I can recommend for getting advice and critics is www!.conceptart!.org the forums there have been invaluable to me and I suggest it to everybody!. It has alot of great advice to steer you in the right direction!. It's one thing to practice, but another thing to have an idea of what your practicing!.
Best of luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
