Question: Really Urgent!!!!!?
Hey im really desperate, i have painted a picture for my art exam (which is tomorrow) and part of it is in oil paint, and i only painted it yesterday!. I have never used oil paint before, and i knew it takes a while to dry but it is still really wet and because it stains things easily i cant take it to school, and i need to! Is there a way to get oil paints to dry quicker!? I have left it in the sun for a while, and patted it a bit with tissue paper, and held a hairdryer over it, it doesnt seem to be drying! are there any suggestions!? they would be gratefully recieved! (oh and its on canvas)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi,

Don't wrap the painting, since the wrapping will attach to the wet surface!.
There are systems to carry wet paintings, but of course that you're not going to buy one just for this time!.
You have to take it in your hands and make sure that nothing touches its surface and that you don't smear anyone's clothes with it!.
It's going to be problematic if you're using public transports!.
Just one thing that is not advisable :
If you have another kind of paint, like acrylic or watercolour, you could paint the same are over the oil (acrylic is better)!.
This is not correct, since the oil needs to dry and besides acrylic should not be used over oil!.
It's just a way to try to solve a situation, but not something that should be done as a regular thing!.

I'm so sorry!

If you have time, the best thing is to redo the painting in a different medium!. (Like acrylic)!. If you don't have time, you'll have to find the safest way to take the painting wet!. There is no way to dry oil that fast, unfortunately!. You can explain to your teacher that you didn't know that oil paint would take so long to dry!. He/She should understand!.

Another possibility is to remove the oil part with a blade and redo that part of the painting with fast drying paint!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do not have an answer, but brilliant question as I would like to know the answer!. I only recently started with oils and was amazed as to how long it took to dry!.I would have thought the hair drier would work!. What about that spray on fix it stuff, that might work!. Be careful do not ruin your picture!. Hope you get it sorted!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

find a fan and set the paintings right in front of the fan!.!.!.that will speed up the process a bit leave it on over night

i hope there is not yellow because that seems to take the longest to dry!.!.!.so you may want to focus on the yellow portion the mostWww@QuestionHome@Com

No i'm sorry but you can't speed it up!!I'd recommend wrapping the painting in a plastic bag and taking it that way!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A long time ago this was the problem also when you painted houses!.!.!.oil paint was used then!. Most houses were painted in the spring after everything had leafed out and the ground was covered with grass!. Days when the wind wasn't blowing helped!. The reasons were obvious dust ,dry leaves etc sticking to the wet paint!.!.!.so they started adding driers to the paint [ cobalt dryers were favorites] !.!.!.this not what you think it is!. And that began enamels!.!.!.a oil paint that formed a skin quickly over it and allowed the paint under it dry slowly!. Does that sound familiar!? It should that is exactly what acrylics do !.!.!.they dry when exposed to air !.!.!.keep air away from the surface and they don't dry!.!.!.Almost all house paint is now acrylic for this reason and we have simple water cleanup and thinning !. Oils with Damar varnish in them dry a little quickerWww@QuestionHome@Com
