Beginner or not, you will have to have the equipment that best serves your purposes!.

If you are selling small products, then a light tent, some inexpensive "hot" lights and a decent P&S camera will be good enough!. If you are producing images for both posting and print media, then a much more expensive DSLR with the appropriate lens is in your future!.
