Question: Is acrylic paint toxic!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
acrylic paint is waterbased so the majority of the paint is not toxic!. the acrylic cadmium paints are toxic because of the heavy metals in them and they can be absorbed into your bloodstream through your skin!. otherwise the other acrylics will not do this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The colours containing toxic metal pigments (cadmium, cobalt, magnesium, chromium) are well-marked on the labels!. The only safety issues with these pigments comes with airbrushing, (always wear a mask), sanding (just don't) and ingesting large amounts!.

The other ingredients in acrylic paints & mediums are labeled non-toxic, however they do contain formaldehyde which can cause reactions in persons with sensitivity to this product!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most acrylics won't be toxic, but I would be careful of the heavy metals!. Cadmiums, Cobalts and Lead!. The medium that acrylics are made up of isn't toxic and for that matter the linseed oil which oil paints are bound together with isn't toxic either!. People drink flax oil for their heath as a matter of fact!. It's the pigments that are mixed in with them!. The most important thing is that you don't digest them, so don't eat or drink while painting with them, always have good ventilation where you are painting and you may want to wear gloves when handling specifically the heavy metals!. If you do accidentally get some on your skin, wash with soap and water immediately!. Have fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've painted murals in acrylic for 35 years, I think its part of my bloodstream now and people guess me usually at 10 years younger than I am-It works good as face paint too-not greasy like those stupid oily pencil things-no I don't think its toxic-most will state that on the labelWww@QuestionHome@Com

Not generally!. It dries into a sort of plastic polymer (once you get it stained on your clothing, it never comes out)!.

Cleaning supplies for oil paint can be toxic if proper precautions aren't taken, such as turpentine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you eat it, yes it is!.

Some of the pigments in the paints can be toxic since they do use things like chromiums, and such!.

It's always best to err on the side of caution!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
