Im getting a digital SLR camera and im taking photography classes!. should i buy Photoshop cs3!.!.or know of any others thats better price but great quality!? i have a desktop with Vista incase that matters!. Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: If you are enrolled in a photography school, ask the instructor!. If you are a student, you should be eligible for student discounts on almost any software!. You might have to send in proof, or show a student ID, but it would be worth it!. (I know Photoshop CS3 is only around $150 with educational pricing) If you are willing to spend the time to learn it, Photoshop would be the way to go!. Photoshop Elements has most of the features of its big brother, and in some respects a nicer user interface!. It can be had for around $100 ($35 educational)!. You might also want to take a look at LightRoom!. Your DSLR should also come with a basic editing software / RAW converter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I would check first to see what software they will use in your course!. It would make no sense to purchase a different program while you are learning something else!. You may be able to get a discount through the school!. Don't forget the online places that offer student discounts too!. After that, decide how serious you are about photography!. Are you serious enough to pay $600 for Photoshop!? Will you take the time to learn it!? Elements as was mentioned by others, is a great option to Photoshop for $100 and can be much easier to use for a casual user!. If you ever move up to Photoshop, you'll find it a bit familiar!. While there are other programs available, if you are serious enough to take a class, choose between the two Adobe programs!. There's Gimp to get you started - which is free and uses the Adobe filters you will use with PSE!. Photoshop Elements 6 is a good price for $99 and there's lots of free tools for it on the net as well as support and tutorials!. CS3 is the best but very pricey!. Photoshop CS3 has way too much for a beginner to conquer, plus it's $650! Elements is about $100 and can do everything you'll need!.
