Question: Why is vincent van gogh considered one of the greatest painters!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I love Vincent's works, I think he was an artistic genius!.

The paintings of Vincent Van Gogh are masterpieces of composition, light, form, texture and color!. His painting style was very fresh and original!. A deeply sensitive and troubled man, Vincent used a lot of symbolism in this paintings!. Look at the swirling brush strokes in the pictures "Cypresses at Arles" or "Starry Night"!. Vincent would sometimes change the colors for visual impact, for example a painting of his bedroom in Arles is not of the actual colors the room!. I love the picture of a sidewalk cafe at night, all bathed in golden light in contrast with the deep blue colors of night!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He is not on any Top Ten lists I have seen!. Salvador Dali rates some artists in history!. My Art History books agree much with Dali!. The greatest painters lived in the Baroque period, and Jan Vermeer van Delft was the greatest who ever lived!. Diego Velasquez was next!. The High renaissance produced the next best painters!. raphael Urbino was best of them!. Leonardo da vinci was close behind him, and Michelangelo Buonnarotti was mainly a great sculptor but did great paintings too!. The Impressionists were far inferior to the Baroque and Renaissance masters!. Post Impressionists elevated the style somewaht!. Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Paul Cezanne were foremost of them!. Van gogh knew persective well enough, so he was competent before he saw the Impressioists' works!. His paintings are intensely emotional!. He anticipated Expressionism!. I would not call Van Gogh a really greaat painter, but he was one of the top 3 of his time that was far inferior to the Baroque period!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
