Question: What is a "suicide print"!? (the art kind)!?

my friend was making 'suicide prints' in art class!. all she told me was that you cut linoleum to make muliple copies of the same art piece!. can anyone explain this further please!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

To make a linoleum print, you cut away the parts of the linoleum that you want to remain white on the finished piece, then cover the surface with one color ink and press onto paper!. With a suicide print, you repeat the process on the same paper with another color ink after cutting more of the linoleum away for the parts that you want to remain the first color!. For example, the first run for a portrait would look like a silhouette!. Then you'd cut away the hair, leaving the face shape to print in another color, over the silhouette, then you'd cut away everything but the eyes, nose and mouth!. They would be printed over everything else and in a third color!. This way you'd have a 3 color portrait, but you couldn't repeat the whole process using the same linoleum-hence the name "suicide print"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
