Whatever the "message" is, which the artist wants to convey, it entirely depends on the "seer" of the art on how he perceives what the art's message is!. It is all individual and it varies from person to person!. Modern or conventional art - it will always be a form of art!. My father was an oil painter!. He sold more than 50 paintings in the last 10 years of his life!. (He died 6 years ago!.) His favorite subject were Landscape & Nature!. My uncle is a renowned sculpture and his subject ranges from classical to modern sculpture!. Another uncle works at Disney doing cartoons which is modern art/animation as we call it!. Still it is a form of art!. I personally dig photography and graphic arts!. I'm learning photo-manipulation which I personally believe is still a form of art!. ART in its pure sense covers a wide range of meaning!. What may be something gross to a person may be an art in another person's eyes!. Message or no message, it all depends entirely on the person appreciating any form of art!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Modern Art covers so much output by so many people exploring a wide range of ideas!.In time,as with all other aspects of the Arts,history will sort out what is relevant and what is not!.Work which was done in the past has meant different things to different societies,often the meaning changing with the different perceptions of society!.Some works transcend time,but not necessarily for their original meaning,for example,Stonehenge!.By understanding the views and opinions of other societies we become more tolerant people!.How's that just for starters!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Modern art makes me wonder if in 200 years people will look at it and say "what the heck were they thinking!." I assume all types of art speak to different people just as different types of music speak to different types of people!. I think that art, music and dance must touch the sole of people, move people, not always making a statement!. The great artist of different venues down through the ages, have touched people and moved people that is why their works lasted!. I can appreciate almost any type of music, art or dance as long as it is done well!. However, modern art just does not move me and I live in the city where the Andy Warhol museum is located!. It's easy to understand Contemporary Art!. The "Art" is the subterfuge by which the "Artist" manages to persuade the "Patron" to part with large amounts of cash!. The "Art" consists in the artist selling their "work" to a buyer or patron!. Contemporary Art therefore can only exist within a capitalist society, sustained by the chattering classes !.Www@QuestionHome@Com Many years ago when I was at school we had an art master who was into modern art!.On a parents open evening he was telling a parent that if he had a pupil that saw a tree as red and saw a cat as purple with 7green legs he should paint it like that!.!.the parent said if he had a child that saw them like that he`d take them to a psychiatrist!. I tend to think the parent had the right idea! Future generations would probably ask "Did these artists come from our planet!?"
