I have been applying for graphic design jobs for a while now but not getting interviews!. I have recently changed my boring black and white CV to a colourful art piece as well as my portfolio!. Im worried employers arent looking at me because I have no tertiary qualifications but learnt my skills on the job for 6 years!. I also work for an industrial company which is perhaps why agencies and boutiques are not looking interested!. Can anyone give me some good advise on how to go about getting noticed for a graphic design job, the next level up!?

I had the same problem for a while, and I'm afraid there is no hard and fast answer to that question!. Graphic design is a very subjective profession!. I started working for myself full time a few months ago, and I have found that in doing this, clients are a lot more interested in my portfolio and past work that I have done than in my resume or where I got my training!.
However, when you are applying for a regular design job in someone else's firm or any other type of company, unfortunately that resume tends to rise high in the ranks of importance!.
A good way to find out why you aren't getting callbacks is to ask!. Email or call some of the companies where you applied, and see if you can speak to the person who was taking the applications!. Be respectful and explain that you are trying to improve your resume and portfolio and you might be surprised how many of them are willing to open up and talk to you about why you were not selected!.
