Question: How much do artist get paid in CA!?

Both of the other answers here are right!.

Basically it's all about the types of projects you work on, the industry you're in, your level of talent and experience, and the agreements you make with your clients!.

And this is same no matter where you work -- the only difference working in CA would be perhaps the greater level of economic activity around entertainment, interactivity, and creative development for asian manufacturing (like toys)!.

If you're just starting, you can expect to make a lower hourly rate like $15 - $20 /hour working in a production department!. Once you've got a solid portfolio, and a couple of years solid project experience, you can start raising your rate -- $35 - $50 /hour is not strange for someone with good skills who always completes projects on time and follows directions perfectly!. After that you might start to specialize, really hone your craft, get hooked in with better clients, and start to function at higher levels on projects and start making $100 /hour and more!.!.!.

On a completely separate track (not hourly), artists and illustrators can also make money via outright sales, royalties, and licensing!. These fees depend completely on the contracts you negotiate!. For instance, if you spent 8 hours creating an illustration, you might sell it outright to a small publisher for $300!.!.!. OR you might negotiate usage rights for the same exact illustration with a large advertising agency in a major national campaign and receive usage payments at astronomical levels (like $90,000 for a year)!. (Again, these rates have nothing to do specifically with California!.!.!. but I can tell you from experience, it's nicer to live here than most other places and the market for illustration is probably better than most other places too!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Depends on how good you are -- if at all!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
