Question: Canon Rebel Xti, Canon 30D, Canon 40D which is better camera !?
I 'm really interested in photography and I am going to take a class this summer!. The canon rebel xti has more mp 10 vs!. 8 for the other two!. Is the Canon 30D or 40D worth the extra money!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

First off your facts are a little off!. The 40D has a 10MP sensor just like the XTi!.

BUT the MPs have little to do with separating these cameras!. The Digic III processor in the 40D has a lot more to do with quality than MPs!.

The question you need to ask is "What am I going to do with this camera!?"

The XTi is an entry level DSLR!. The 30D and its latest successor, the 40D, are what some referred to as "Pro-sumer' models!.

The biggest differences in the 40D and the XTi are the extras and performance!. 6!.5 vs 3!.5 fps, the Live View LCD (Which I would discourage using for a beginner in the field), ISO range, image buffering, faster autofocus, etc, etc, etc!.

(The 40D has a larger mAh battery [which you can get for the XTi] because it sucks down the juice faster than Ted Kennedy and a martini, with the Life View LCD)

If you are taking your first photography class then I would suggest the XTi and take the money you save and buy better and faster glass to put in front of it!.

If most of this didn't make sense!. Then buy the XTi and hurry up to class!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

How much research have you done on these cameras!? 40D is the most expensive!.!. and you can safely assume that it is most advanced of the all three!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The question of which is the better camera has more to do with what your ultimate goal is in photography!.

If best is the only criteria, then the Canon 1Ds, Mark III is the only choice !.!.!. just be ready to part with $8,000 for the body!.

It seems that you too have been bitten by the megapixel myth!. In reality to see any difference in quality (if megapixels were the only criteria) the pixel count would have to double before you might notice a difference!.

Look at the cameras side by side!.

You will notice that the 30D and40D cameras have a battery with higher mAh rating !.!.!.!. more photos between charges!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Poky is right

BTW
the amount of megapixels has nothing to do with image quality!. It's a sales tactic!. You need them but a big sensor is better!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The 40D is technically considered the best, but since you're new to photography then the XTi will do fine!.

I suggest you get the XTi and a nice lens rather than the 40D!. Think about what you like or want to shoot (macro, portraits, landscape, etc!.), then buy the proper lens for that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like all the answers given so far but I want to add my own experience!.!.!.!.!.I originally bought a 20D about three years ago as the second digital camera I owned!. My original was a point and shoot without many of the features I began to "require"!.

About 15 months ago I decided to upgrade to the 5D for one major reason - the full sized sensor!. I am not sure, but given the comparative sensor sizes (larger on the 5D) vs!. the mega pixel count, I believe I ended up with about the same pixel density per square mm!. Given this and the fact that I mostly do environmental and landscape photography, I was faced with the problem of how to get a truly wide angle lens for the 20D!. I had made the decision to stick with Canon lens so I was more or less stuck with the "S" class lens for my 20D!. This was not acceptable to me so I decided to upgrade my 20D to a 5D!. I love my 5D!. I also do medium format film and find great satisfaction with the cameras I use for this (Mamyia and Bronica)

My advice is to take the class with the least cost most function camera you can find!. If your instructor allows, buy a full function used 35mm film camera (probably less than $100)!. You can get a truck load of film processed and printed for the cost delta - certainly enough for the class!.

After you have taken the class, met several digital users, decided if you like photography, determined the subject matter you like and want format best fits your needs, then make up you mind!.
