Most of those appear to be a diffused light from the side!. Could be and umbrella, or a soft box!. The lower contrast ones probably had a fill light, or a reflector to soften the shadows!. The one with the water looks like a single direct light!.
The fastest way to learn lighting, is to experiment with a digital camera so you can see the results!. Even if your final frame is on film, this will allow you to see what your are getting first!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know the answer to your question, but the thing that strikes me about these pics is that they don't reflect enough human emotion, and the poses don't glorify real human bodies!. The beauty is too far out!. Very few people look like that!. It just smacks of glamour and not raw human imperfection!.
My advice is, look for imperfection in your artwork and captilize on it!. Imperfection in the right light beats the heck out of glamour and made-up beauty!. Really, art is all about the flaws!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
You might get some good advice from For Your Eyes Only (www!.fyeo!.me!.uk) I had a shoot done there and the results are amazing, Its an all woman studio and I'm sure they would help you as they were great!Www@QuestionHome@Com
Very, Very good lighting!. Shows this person knows a lot and composes carefully!. Only the last two appear to have some effects applied after the fact (texture and toning), probably done with photoshop!.
To attain this level of lighting control you definitely need to work in a well-equipped studio !.!.!. and know a LOT bout lighting and posing!.
