Surely a fin, she is a mermaid after allWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'm pretty sure it's a tail!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Looks like legs, until down where the feet should be, it turns to a fin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She has part legs, part fish tail!.!.!.!.!.its a duality that represents the duality of her nature!.
The sculpture depicts her sitting, looking out over the water, after never actually having married the prince, reminiscing over her lost childhood in the sea, as a mermaid!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She has part legs, part fish tail, although the story by Hans Christian Andersen clearly defines when she has a fish tail and when she has legs!. The hybrid leg/tail arrangement was probably done to make it easier to figure out who she is, if you don't know the statue in advance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
