1) chose a shape for the over all design
2) chose two - three colors
3) chose a font that you like
4) sketch out different arrangements of d-d-s
5) change the font if needed or change the shape

Last but not least, it does take some sweat to work it out. It isn't a recipe like making chocolate milk.
