Question:Graphics as in clip art/icons.

I know that I'd have to get something like Adobe Illustrator, but in Illustrator, does it allow you to actually DRAW the picture? Or are people scanning their drawings onto their computer?I'm kind of confused on exactly what it is. Is it like the Paint that comes with Windows XP?? And does it come with like special font that isn't availabe in Microsoft word?

Some examples:

http://www.iconator.com/icon.php?IconID=...
http://www.iconator.com/download.php?Ico...
and FONT like

Yes, you can draw in Illustrator. It is primarily used for creating vector graphics. It's similar to MS paint in the sense that it is a graphics program, but it is much more complex. It may take some time for you to learn how to use it effectively. It is a program that costs a lot of money ( 599 USD), so you may want to download the trial version at http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrato... to see if it is something that you are really interested in purchasing.

If you're not ready to take the almost 600 dollar leap, you may be interested in downloading some freeware- some art programs that are available for free download on the internet. I haven't done much with vectors, but Wikipedia has a list of free programs that edit those kinds of graphics right here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vec... .

You can just keep using MS paint, but I don't feel like I should recommend that...

Some programs do have fonts that generally don't seem to want to show up in MSW...but if it's fonts you're after you can just download them from places like http://www.1001fonts.com/.

If by "making" graphics you mean creating a completely new graphic you will indeed need a program (Photoshop, Paintshop, etc.) which provides you with tools to draw and paint as you would on paper. This will be sufficient to create clip-art (saved in a number of different formats). Icon creating is slightly different. These are very small files and are saved in a specific format (ICO). Many of the standard graphic editors do not allow you to save in ICO format and you will therefore need to download an icon making utility from the internet.
