Question:Hi, I'm Liam age 12 and I have just bought a Sony Cybershot DCS-W55 digital camera. I'm planning to take photos of flowers, beach views and holiday snaps. I really need some tips for this so that I know how to take a good photo like how to hold the camera and what I need to do to make a photo look good and where to put people in a photo. Mind you i'm not numb so I don't really want something like 'put the person you are taking the picture of in the middle' because I want something that I might not know already and something that will actually help me.

Use the tips listed on this link and enjoy your camera:

The single tip I always rely on is called

The Rule Of Thirds

It's what you use either in composing your shot in the first place, or in Photoshop to crop your shot later

Lots of magazines with good tips pages out there

Close ups of flowers might need a macro lens or you can get enlarging rings which are cheaper. And a tripod is a must

get adobe photo shop then it doesn't matterwhare people ar in shot or its dull ...you can move ,people, make it a sunny day its the best in photo software......and would be a help to you if someone who has it shows you the basics ....a had to go 6mths night collage to find my way with it......

actually you don't want them in the middle.
pretend the screen is split into thirds, and have the subject on one of the lines.
then see if you can have something focused on in the back and blur out the front, or visa versa. that's neat.

here are some websites:

Shoot at a shutter speed greater than 1/200th of a second to avoid blurry shots.

You've asked a lot, but just one thing you must remember. Never take a picture looking down at someone. For example, if you'r photographing a person siting in a chair get down on your knees and have the camera at the same height as the person's head. And soon as you can, join a photographers' club, perhaps with an older person. Good luck.
