Position:Home>Visual Arts> What's you're favorite picture/photo alteration software?

Question:I'm on Windows Vista Home Premium and I'm looking for a user friendly software which enables me to manage and alter my photographs. The changes I want to make will vary from your standard redeye, to cropping, to actually adding text and playing around with the photo (for example to make birthday invites, et cetera). I have been doing most of the alterations in Paint, then moving them in a photo system I have, but I just want something that's all encompassing, any ideas??

Personally, I like ArcSoft PhotoImpression 6.

It's pretty simple to figure out, unlike Photoshop.

Anything that cannot be done with it, can be done with Picasa2 which is free from Google.

I believe you might can find PhotoImpression for free too.

Not sure... but I only use those two and have never had a problem.

PhotoImpression can do all the Photoshop faves... Selective coloring, cloning, repairing, smoothing skin... etc etc.

It would definitely be more worth it than PhotoShop if you are looking for user-friendly

I would go with photoshop, go to this site and try it for free

Unless you really are serious about photo editing don't bother spending the money on Photoshop. (Photoshop CS3 with lots of bells and whistles is close to $1000). There are a lot of Software titles out there that are fine for organizing and do a great job with photo manipulation, that are much cheaper. Nova Photo Explosion, Microsoft Digital Image Suite, ACDSee, are a few that you would have to buy. Picasa (from Google) is a free download.

Photoshop CS, it is absolutely the best.

#2 Is GIMP, because I consider it the poor mans photoshop. It's free. One just has to be willing to spend a few days with it. It's not like bundled software that takes 30 minutes to learn - GIMP is powerful and if you learn how to load in some plug ins, your photo's will be almost as good at what Photoshop can do.

If you use a combination of Microsoft "Picture It" and a really good CHEAP program I found Called Photo Explosion from Ulead you will have perfect results. Check out Wal-mart or Staples or Office Max

I use DPP and Photoshop.
