How to create a animated GIF image with GIMP?

Question:if any1 can help me... i hav a pic that i want to move from 1 side to the other. but it must look like a video/ man walking...

ive tried placing layers but stoped at 1000 (was to tired) is there any easier way of doing it??? :)
