Well, there are people who simple "make webpages" (e.g. http://www.imdb.com/) but there are others who get into "web design" (eg.http://www.neostream.com/ *take longer to load).

You can very much tell the difference between someone who makes webpages and someone who designs them.

Yes, Graphic Design and Web Design are most certainly related to each other.

When one goes into the Graphic Design college program they learn to design using several different elements. These very same elements can be applied to web design.

Often the Graphic Design program can branch into several different majors:
one being Web Design,
others include Communication design, advertising design, exhibit design, packaging design, etc.

So, yeah. That's the deal. I'm a Graphic Designer Communication Major, but I know lots of GD's who have become Web Designers. It's an amazing field.

Web design is just what it says it's designs done specific for the web such as making web pages, moving objects on the web like from flash or quick time. Learning how to make objects or words scroll across the screen. It's basically everything which is involved in making or maintaining a website.

Graphic Design is all of that plus any art work you see on flyers, signs many commercials, logos, various designs that you see of cans of soda, graphic designers are used for just about everything that has some type of artistic statement or alignment through the usage of words, shapes, color, or all of them combined in any arrangement.
