Position:Home>Visual Arts> Is polaroid film really going to stop being made?

Question:What's your opinion? I purchased a slide printer a while back, and I was going to do some polaroid transfers. Should I go ahead and buy the film, do you think they are going to stop making it?

Don't be worried - you're using peel apart film - Type 669 or similar size. Fuji does still make a film that is the same size and is compatible with your slide printer.

www.freestylephoto.biz has the film at pretty good prices, both the Polaroid and the Fujifilm version. That's where I get all of my 669.

Enjoy your Polaroid Transfers! I know I got my assorted old Polaroid cameras solely for Polaroid Emulsion Lifts. Polaroids are an interesting medium to work with - you can do an awful lot with them.

Have fun!

I don't know about this, but I hope they don't stop making it! I love polaroid film!

I saw this in the Business section a few weeks ago. I think they are phasing it out rather than abruptly stopping. I suspect they will continue to make the professional quality backs for studio work for a while at least - try Googling "Polaroid+stop producing"- I'm sure you'll find a story.

According to them they are going to stop making Poloroid instant photo because of digital camera. They would however, concentrate on making digital camera instead. I saw it on the business news last Feb. My camera will soon be just one of those antiques you can't use except for display. Here's a website on the instant films that are discontinued and about to be discountinued. http://polaroid.com/ifilm/en/index.html

There is a rumor though, that Fuji might take over with making those instant film, if they can see a potential profit for it.

Yes, it is true that they're going to stop making it.

With that said, however, Fuji has for ten years now been making their own line of peel-apart "pack" film that's an exact replacement for Polaroid 667, 669, etc.

In my opinion, at least, this is a far superior film in terms of both color and sharpness. It's also around the same price.

As far as I know, this is the type of film the slide printer uses, so you should be okay at least for the near future.
