It all depends on what your still life is, but interesting textures, like cracked stone work, rustic wood panelling and draped cloth usually work well.
You could simply draw the rest of the room behind it (but that's only if it fits in with the drawing and is not too distracting).
If you think your still life stands out well enough on its own just go for varying shades of a pastel or other light colour, slapped down in an immpressionistic way or blended together subtly.
Black can be too heavy, but it works well sometimes, especially if you want a darker, momre atmospheric feel.

If you want more ideas, just look at what other artists have done.

a city, a library, a mall a house, a hill with a blooming tree at the top of the hill with somebody sitting down be original about it but out of the way of other painting do a office bulding or something unusual also i did something so that property of you so this idea is yours not mine
