Old photo images can be scanned, this is often done for people wanting cherished images to be restored. Some scanners have specific facilities to scan slides and negative negative materials.A visit to a number of professional photographers will confirm this and allow you to make a survey and hence your own judgement on which is best for you.If it is just a small amount of negative material then most good professionals will offer to copy it for you to a CD for a nominal fee. Hope this information helps you make an informed judgement.

You can get photo scanners that will scan negatives too. Ask in a computer shop or look for reviews on the net.

I've actually re-photographed my old photographs and restored them myself, and most of them came out beautifully. No need for scanning/negatives, just make sure the light is correct and shoot at 35mm. This allows you to restore them exactly the way you want to (add more contrast in most cases, touch up spots, get rid of colour casts etc)

I haven't ever had any luck with scanning negatives or slides. I also haven't had any luck having negatives scanned at Walgreens. Have prints made, and scan the prints. I llike the idea of photographing the photos, try that!

I happen to have an HP 3960 with slide and negative adapter... it will scan them at 1200 dpi and does and excellent job. It is for sale plus shipping for $75... Vista compatable.

It is going on ebay soon, so email me if you are interested,
