Matte or glossy??

Question:I scanned some pictures, put them on a CD, uploaded them to Snapfish, cropped & made black & white. They are photos of my mom from childhood to now. I am framing them in silver frames....which will look better, matte or glossy????

It's really just personal preference. I order Snapfish prints frequently, and I always get the Matte finish. Their "matte" paper is actually kind of a luster paper - It's not super shiny or glossy, but still reflects a little bit of light. B/W pics look great on snapfish's matte paper.

depends on the clarity of the scans. If you think this is nostalgic, and want to go with B&W and the images are a bit grainy, then it sounds like a good choice

I would prefer glossy.

Matte, more crisper, i don't like glare from glossy prints.

I work at in a photo lab. Matte is MUCH better. Glossy seams cheap to me. Matte haves better quality, and makes the photographs look more professional.

I personally think that if you are going to put them in silver frames then matte would definetly be better. You will not have glaring shine from both photo and frame and will draw your eye into the picture and on the subject. glossy you tend to lose the subject because of the glare you have to tilt and angle to see past the shine where light might hit it.

I have found that matte seems to have less detail in the blacks (in fact we even had to stop using it in my color management class because of that), so I think glossy would be a better choice. I personally prefer to use lustre.

If the scans are good, it is a personal choice. Matte paper can hide small imperfections while glossy won't. My personal preference is a semigloss paper. Semigloss paper does not have a lot of glare like glossy paper and looks a lot like a darkroom print on fiber paper.
