Position:Home>Visual Arts> Is there a ghost in my photo?

Question:I took this picture this past weekend between Nelson and Castlegar, BC. When we looked at it, my husband first noticed the pinky/purplish image in the tree at the right and jokingly said "you took a picture of a ghost". Could this really be a ghost, or is it merely the sunlight and the flash of the camera colliding? Could someone please look at the picture (link below) and tell me what you think? Thanks.

First off, beautiful picture!

I think it may very well be a ghost. I'm not sure whether or not I believe in ghosts, but on a few ghosts websites I have gone to, the pictures look very similar to that.

i think your husband may be right but most ghosts that appear in pictures are white. you should take it to a near by reading at a church and ask the medium.

i think its the rays of the sun, ghosts in pictures usually look cloudy but are white, or they look like small orbs, or they have the form of a person =)

it is just the sunlight and the flash of the camera colliding .

I think it's the sunlight and the flash...Booooooooo

Sorry to spoil it for you, but I don't think it is. If you notice at the top of the tree that there is a spot that kind of looks like a ray of sunshine. I think that the sun is barely out of shot and what it is doing is illuminating part of your lens.

In short, it's just a trick of the light.

i think it is just color form the sun shining on your camera lens. that is a really good picture though, besides the purple spot. it could be a ghost, i don't really believe in them though. hope i helped. =D

yup itz a ghost alright...
no
but the picture makes me feel like a ghost is prezent

It's not a ghost. It's also not sunlight colliding with the flash. I have seen similar patterns with bad film. Sometimes film will get too hot or will be exposed to some other source of radiation. Oils can also produce the effect. I have seen other issues with amateur photography that are weird. I took my camera apart and usually found what was causing the strange things in my pictures. If this is a digital camera, then you should check your camera lens.

Marcus M has it with the sunlight on the lens. Your lens is probably plastic. Combine that with some other neat things about plastics and light at sharp angles and you get the purple or another color. Plastic is usually oil based. You see something like that when sunlight shines on a pool of oil or gasoline.

It's a nice picture. Keep it up and enjoy.

lens flare

Nice picture. But i dnt think its a ghost. It doesnt have a shape to it. I think its just light from wherever.

looks like it was pretty sunny out that day, probably just light...

No, because there is no such thing as ghosts.

Yes and no. It's not a ghost, like some sort of spirit of the dead, but instead a lens flare. These are actually often called ghosts (the effect being called "ghosting"), most likely derived from the ghost that you're thinking of.

Here is a tip to get rid of this kind of ghosts.

Always use UV filter (Ultra Violet filter) because camera lens is very sensitive and can capture unneeded ultra violet rays that we cant see through our eyes. It would also protect your lens from dust and stretches. I hope you 'll never see a ghost in your beautiful pictures again.
