Why does slipknot wear masks?

Question:I read somewhere that they wanted to hide their faces so that people would focus on their music, not their faces and so people won't be all up in their business

Edit: I just read an article that said that they originally wore masks because their music was embarrasing. But I don't know how reliable this source is.

So they dont have the media all over them every where they go in their real faces.
