When someone doesn't like a painting or other piece of artwork you have done it is insulting, but they could be a person that likes something different say it is someone who HATES abstract art and only thinks paintings that are extremely realistic should be considered art.

Just do what you want to do. The only critic you NEED to please is yourself everyone else can just go F--- themselves. You are your own toughest critic.

I thought about this yesterday and asked people what they do with it, I got some interesting and some positive feed back, and what it all comes down to is you can't please everyone in the world. I say it like this, If you aren't someones cup of tea then you will be for someone else and the fact is that some people don't even like tea. :) HTH!

kinda...but i paint the way i want whether someone likes it or not

Just think of Van Gough. No one would pay a buck for his work during his lifetime. And now they are worth millions.

it just means its not their style.

however, there is a sense of discouragement when someone does say they dont like it.

but i mean i hardly show my work to anyone unless im extremely proud, and even then its only the people i live with who happen to see it haha.

but no dont pay attention to it because there are people who will like it, it just might not be their style or art taste

Depends why you are painting. Most people do it as a form of self expression. Therefore the painting is for and of the painter. Other's liking or getting it is a plus.

I don't if they only say "I don't like it" and can't back it up with reasons. But if they give tons of logical and correct reasons, then I may get a little discouraged. But usually if I am satisfied with my work it does not matter much what others think of it.

this is something all artists have to deal with but just think of art yourself and you know some things you like and some things you don't so it's really a matter of personal taste and not a personal attack or just don't share your paintings with anyone until you feel confident you can handle it
