I think you're talking about the term superimposition. Dissolve is when one scene melts into the next. When a cartoon is mixed into a live action scene, it could be a number of things from 'blue screen' to 'superimposition' to 'live action with stop motion animation using back projection',and lots of other digital options as well - have a look at the link below and see if there's something there that fits. |
