Position:Home>Visual Arts> How do I preserve my acrylic painting?

Question:I'm new at painting, and I started with acrylics (on canvas, if that makes a difference). I was wondering what the best way to preserve these paintings is. Do I need varnish or something?

You can spray it with an acrylic sealer.
They come in matte or 'clear'-which is a shiny finish.

I have found that the clear (shiny) finish will give some depth to the colors.

As acrylic pain wasn't developed until the 1950 not much is known about preserving acrylic paintings.
But no you do not need to varnish your painting, unless of course you want a shinny finish.
Just let dry and hang on your wall away from direct sun light to stop fading. Keep the painting dry, do not wash with water just dust, I find feather duster works best.
