Fletch,
There are many, many kinds of equipment you could buy. There are all sorts of templates, an electric eraser, a drafting table (all kinds of those,) and assortment of hard and soft pencil leads, trays of leads and their metal holder and the specialized sharpener for them, and much more. Visit a drafting supply store in your area. They will tell you about their equipment and how it's used.

No matter where you live, go to UC Berkeley for architecture. It's the #1 rated school for arcitecture in the US (and perhaps the world.) Go to their website to learn more about architecture. Call local colleges and make appointments with some of the professors. They will be glad to talk to you, tell you about their work (always ask this question of any professor,) about the tools, software, classes and anything else you can think of.

Your early preparation will richly reward you in your career. Also, read lots of books about architects (get recommendations from the professors you talk to) and architecture.

Do well at your studies now even the subject you don't like. Cause when it comes to finals you are going to want a good mark to get into uni for the 4-5 years of study to become one or have a masters.

Patience and imagination! Don't be afraid to try new ideas, they just may be our future!!! Best of luck to you!
