If you are taking photos of yourself, then of course its going to be different.

Semi-pro cameras are only as good as the person holding it. Yes, the lens has a bend to it, but its barely noticeable if at all.

I would say that you need to work with the settings on your camera to get the best picture.

Image-nut.com has a good selection of tutorials that will help you figure them out.

it depends on the pixels of your camera phone if your camera phone has more pixels than your semi-pro the photos you take with it will be more acurate and clear......although if your semi-pro isn't digital then what i just said won't really matter any way...on the otherhand if it is digital then that is probably it...try adjusting the contrast and brightness on your semi-pro and lowering the quality on the phones camera then compare them. if the phones picture looks more like the picture you took with the semi then BINGO! that will be it.

I'd say your good camera has a higher resolution and a sharper image. The camera phone would be a bit fuzzier and produce a softer portrait. Often in movies, when the star had her closeup, it was shot slightly out of focus to achieve a more pleasing image. That was done with a vari focus filter or a lens that made the image appear softer.

With your semi-pro camera, you probably need to have it zoomed out to take the picture?? Well, at that wide angle, facial features are distorted. With the cell phone, its probably better controlled. Certainly, if you make an effort to learn about photography and portraiture, you will realize it isn't the camera, its the photographer that makes the picture.

you probably have the camera too close to you when you're taking your own photo. put the camera about 10 feet away with the zoom on a bit, and then take the same photo. that will make you look better. the way the lens is shaped, the closer you are the more you will look distorted.
