Position:Home>Visual Arts> Photo shoot ideas needed?

Question:I am a amature photographer and am just trying to get some practice. My neice is going to model for me and I need some ideas for the shoot. I have a ton of ideas but I need ones that can be outside, not to senior picture looking and no special lighting required.

ANYTHING
Climbing a tree
Jump Rope
Tying a shoe
Playing soccer
Running
Laying in grass
Reading
Just think of anything that comes off the top of you're head. Creativity should not be held back.

blowing bubbles on a deck (especially during sunset)
in a field/valley
railroad tracks
drawing with chalk on the sidewalk

Keep out of direct sunlight if possible to prevent harsh shadows and squinty eyes. Catch her unaware, too. Nothing like trying to shoot someone who acts like they're having their picture taken. Ugh. That's why I don't (normally) do people.

Something near an ocean or on a beach would look great! The lighting from the sun, and the contrasting of colours... blue from the water, yellow/orange on the beach, brown if you're near decking. Maybe use extra props if you'd like more colour such as a rainbow umbrella or a beach towel etc. Or if you'd like a different set of colours, try going somewhere where it's cloudy, but there's still a sun around (for the lighting) + maybe take the pictures in black and white, with darker props.

Also, in a forest looks really good, also where its sunny. The different sorts of green + the brown leaves on the ground.

Other ideas;
Mountains
On a sunset
Somewhere where it's snowing
A busy city
A clear field of tall grass/park

Hope this helps!

First off, you want her to be herself, unaware of the camera, this is pretty easy to do if you give her something to play with, the bubbles idea is great, I like that in the woods watching the bubbles rise with a wide angle from below. A shovel and some dirt are great and have her dress like a laborer. Another idea that I like is to have a trunk of old clothes and a full length mirror for her to look at herself, make sure that you shoot at an angle that allows you to not be reflected in the mirror. This is one of my favorite ways to shoot kids, they just really get into the dress-up thing and forget about the camera.
The way you do it is up to you, just look at what you are shooting and encourage your subject, that's very important.
Good luck, Rick

Why don't you talk to your niece and get some ideas of what she would like to do?
Photos are never their best if the person in them isn't comfortable.
