Question:I want to make an event sign out of canvas that will be used outdoors and was wondering what the best paint would be that wouldn't break down to fast. (?) Acrylic (?) or if there is any other ideas for lettering on the sign that will adhere well on the canvas...??? Thank you so much!

This will depend on how long you want this sign to last - one weekend or five years?

I've done outdoor signs & used Tremclad as well as One Shot sign paint. They are both long-lasting. For canvas, you'll need something flexible, so acrylic would work as well, as long as it's varnished afterward. Use a good quality artists paint (not craft or house paint) for the best colour. Choose opaque colours for the best coverage (check the tubes for transparency ratings).

HEAT. The only thing that will stay. Is what is on the material if you over lap paint. it will wash out. At each color take an iron and heat from the back side. not much you, want it to bleed to the back. Use low heat.

You could use either acrylic paint or the silk screen printing inks that are used to print T-shirts,the latter choice would enable you to print lettering and repeat designs or shapes if this is useful for your image. Most towns have a little printing firm that could supply you with small amounts of ink,or may even do the work for you for an advert on your design, try around you could get a sponsorship deal!!

i know you can get a lot of outdoor paints for differrent things. but you realy would be best going to your nearest well known d i y . shop and asking their advice. it costs nothing for advice, and that s where you'll get the best. good luck.
