Probably your version does not have the right informaton to convert the RAW file from your camera model.

Each camera needs the RAW converter to be uptdated to handle their files.

You should have RAW converter software that came with your camera.

Bibble Labs make a very good RAW converter that is reasonably priced and there are regular updates as new camera models are released.

if you go on to the photoshop websight you can down load the program that is used to view these photos. if that does not work i would not know what to do.

What kind of camera do you have? I have a Canon 40d and I tried to use raw and came across the same problem. I don't think Photoshop will read the raw file. I tried a few free online software programs with no success until I figured out to install the software that came with my camera onto my computer. The program is called Digital Photo Professional and it works really well.

I'm not sure if this will work for you

(Oh, and I did download the Photoshop software and for some reason I couldn't get it to work.)

Your camera should have come with software that will process RAW images. Each manufacturer uses a different format.
Without knowing which camera you have it is hard to tell you anymore.

i use the program for the computer that came with the camera, then i move it all to my photoshop (cs2 or cs3) in bridge. that works very well for me...people tell me there are easier and simpler ways to do it but then they start speaking greek and i can't understand what they are telling me. so i just do it the way it works for me. though i'm told there are tutorials for cs2 and cs3 that tell us how to do just that....(by those same people that are so fluent in greek.)

You need to download and install Adobe Camera Raw 3.7:

Hmm. Photoshop CS2 does not work with RAW plug in version 4.1, which supports your camera.

In this case, you an use the DNG Converter (Adobe Digital Negative Converter) that can convert your Nikon RAW files into Digital Negative - and CS2 will open them. It's free (go here http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/index.... choose Mac or PC that you need). It works in BATCH mode (meaning the whole folder of files can be converted - just do it and walk away and a while later, you'll have a bunch of DNG files.

or

upgrade to CS3 (or get Adobe Lightroom 3.1).
