Position:Home>Visual Arts> Photography, Is This a Pose or Snapshot?

Question:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Dutch...

I'm also wondering when photography technology became good enough to take snapshots. For some reason I always thought that in the 19th Century the subjects had to stay still for a while.

Thanks

It might be an accurate representation of the scene, but given that photographs from the 1860s required from 1-3 minutes of exposure, it almost certainly is posed.

I would say it was posed, probably just prior to the troops engaging in an expected attack, as they are in defensive positions.

Thinking it has to be posed.

The angle it seems to have been taken at would have put the photographer in harm's way if this was a real fire fight.

The long exposure answer could give it away, too.

It is Pose.

Can at that time it took several minutes to take photo's unlike today where you can take a photo in 1/8000th of a second.

1888 was when Kodak came out with the first film camera. in 1907 the first 'modern' film camera was built. These would be your two dates.

That photo was a pose, most likely shot by one of Brady's photographers. It looks like it was a Ferrotype picture. http://www.collodion-artist.com/History/
