35mm photography and digital photography? please help!?

Question:I am going to be taking a 35mm photography course and digital photography course over the summer, and i need help finding the right cameras. For digital photography, I was recommended to purchase a cannon powershot camera along with a sandisk sd - 512 MB card, an 'impact AA NIMH 2700 mah BATT (4) w/ 4 hour chargers, and a canon PSC-85 soft case f/PS a series. as for 35 mm photography, they recommed a canon EOS rebel K2 w/28-90 III kit/USA. I DONT UNDERSTAND ANY OF THIS! please, help me intrepet or send links as to where to purchase these

This is Canon's website where you can see the Powershot camera and the EOS series camera.
The Scandisk 512 MB card is just a memory disk that you would use in the camera, and the batteries are the kind that can be recharged many times. The difference between the two cameras is the EOS is a digital SLR camera in which you can purchase additional lenses for. The Powershot is a point and shoot camera. The Canon website is good to compare the two cameras. Both are excellent choices by the way.

First you've got to think about what you will be wanting to do with photography after these classes. If you are just buying cameras for your class then I would go with a point and shoot, which is simple with basic features.

A good rul eof thumb for buying any type of cameras is to buy from a company that is specifically cameras. Nikon, Canon, Kodak, Pentax, etc.

Do not buy cameras that are just mass electronics companies i.e. HP, Sony, Samsung, etc.

For you, I would talk with your teacher on suggestions for purchasing cameras. The teacher will know what type of camera and functions will be needed for their course.

I agree that you need to talk to your instructor before you buy anything ... there is never a good reason to buy something twice.

That is a lot of work for just one summer.

When buying your 35mm camera, there is no need to buy a new camera and lens. Canon's (and Nikon's) are known for their robust cameras. That said, you can buy a used camera and lens on craigslist in a city near you. You should be able to find one for under $200 with lens. Once you have the camera and lens, you can later buy a DSLR that will use the lens you already have and all the features on the 35mm camera will be available on the DSLR so your digital class will just be an extension of the 35mm class.
