two things come to my mind

1) make sure that the final image is in 8bit rather than 16bit.
2)make sure that the final image has been set to rgb colour

Both of these settings can be found in Image>>Mode>>....

file>export image for web

or something like that

Hey, when you click save, or save as it will come up with the window in which you choose your format, filename etc, click where it says psd its a scrollbox, jpg or jpeg will be there. If that doesnt work, try using save instead of save as. (Has to do with what format document you are trying to save, if its a copy etc)

Go to File>Save As. Now go ahead and save the file as a .psd file, with a new name. (Add something the name it already has so you know what file it came from.) Now, in the copy you've created, go to Layers>Flatten Layers. Once you've flattened the file (if you look in your layers palette you will see there is only one layer now, with everything in it.) Now go to File>Save As and the dialog box should allow you to select jpg from the drop down list.
