Question:I wanna make a picture black and white then have maybe like a headband be pink or some other color. I have seen that a lot on myspace and I don't know how to do it. I think it would be fun to mess around with on some pictures.

Here is the deets:
1. I have paint shop pro 4
2. I have ACDsee
3. or I have Adobe Photoshop 4.0

I would rather use paint shop pro since I am like super familiar with that.
Can you help please??

I have photoshop 7. I'm not too sure if it'll work with 4 but I'll just give you the steps and see if you can follow them
1. Open up picture
2. Duplicate it the picture
3. Saturate it (turning it black and white
4. Then take the eraser tool and erase on the parts that you want to show in colour!
Hope it works! (:

Its called selective coloring

Download Picasa from Google. It's free & there's a feature that does that for you, plus much more. It's very user friendly.

I only know how to do this in photoshop, what you need to do is to use the selection tool, but select by color. You can choose for it to be contiguous or not, IE everything red in the photo is selected, or everything red before it touches a border of another color. You can also set how much of a range you want, if maybe the piece you want in color is a range of colors that are similar. After you have it selected then you need to go to edit and select the inverse, then you can use a filter to change your selection to black and white.

if you want download picasa2 off google theres an option on there for that
i have the other 3 programs
they dont have the effect for it

I have never used those programs but I use Picasa that you can download for free it works great....its called focal black and white!! If you can't get the whole thing you want to be in color the first time I usually save the part that I did get to be just the color then open it up in paint...go back and click on undo focal black and white and then do the other part that I didn't get...then open that up in paint....copy and paste the pictures together so that they fit!!! I do it all the time!!!
Good luck!!

There are many ways, but i think the easiest would be to use paint shop.

Highlight the area you want coloured, with the lassoo tool (in the main tool bar) and then invert the selection in the 'selection' tab at the top, then layer>adjustment>hue/sat, decrease the saturation to -100 (completely). This should create a B&W background with a coloured selection.

hope this helps.

On Adobe Photoshop you desaturate all but the specific part/s you want colored. you can even saturate those more to make them even brighter and stand out more.

I use PSP9 but all the versions are pretty similar.
