Some info on working with clay for students?

Question:will be working with clay with students from age kindergarden to 8th grade...we got the clay from a store and it seems very moist, sticky...sticks to fingers, desks etc....what can be done?

If it is excessively moist you can make a slab of plaster. When the plaster bat itself if dry it will comparatively quickly draw water from clay placed on it.
Sounds like it is just a little too wet, place the clay in the air for a few hours while regularly checking it until it's a bit dryer. If it is just a little too wet just working with it will dry it. And yes, working with clay is messy. It's supposed to be messy, otherwise, where would be the fun?
