Position:Home>Visual Arts> Any recent experiences with carrying a large tripod onto a plane?

Question:Domestic and/or international flights. Haven't had the need since 9/11 and I'm afraid due to it's shape. I prefer not to check it or carry it in a suitcase.

I have a rolling bag, which fits in the overhead on a plane, I put my tripod in the bag, along with other things I don't want to check through ... I also put clothing, a smaller camera bag etc.. I carry my photo gear in a backapack. Since you can carry 2 bags onto a plane it works well. If it is a smaller plane, usually you can gate check the rolling bag, as you don't fing out about the size of the plane until you are ready to board. I've never had any issues doing it this way.

Maby get a tripod that folds down really small??

Manfrotto's new DX tripod will be out soon. I had a sneak preview. It's bloody fantastic!
