Position:Home>Visual Arts> Can anyone tell me why paintings by picasso are very expensive?

Question:initially when picasso first exhibited his paintings they were severly crtisised and laughed at,he could paint realistically aswel but he thought that the cubist form was more aestically pleasing to his eye... he and cezanne were big into cubism and they and others were evolving art in a new direction...it became a breath of fresh air compared to the strict, reality painting that were depicted before... defo more expressionistic and new for the time...so the question about why are his paintings worth so much is.... because they became hugely popular, his style and quirkyness and personality captured the essance of spanish culture and everybody wanted a piece of him.... the more popular an artist becomes the more an investor wants his work... art as an investment is a huge business, van gogh never sold a painting in his life time and his sun flowers is one of the most expensive paintings ever bought but when something becomes visually reconisable around the world it becomes easy to identify and hense more valuable, growing up i remember seeing picasso, van gogh,monet.. prints on walls in houses alot....i personally am not crazy about picasso anymore because like him during his time i am now into the art of my time....

He's very famous, probably about the most well known painter of the modern era. It's simply because of that, people are willing to pay that much for them.

No painting has any kind of inherent value, it's just what someone is willing to pay for it.

People give them that value. Why they are willing to buy his paintings for that big money? I do not know, I would not do it, even though I like Picasso a lot :-)

It's a corporate investment, it has to be valued at some outrageous price to justify there financial holdings.

Picasso's work charts the move from representation to abstraction. As such, his paintings are important historical artifacts of the rise of modernism. He was an enormously prolific artist, working in many different mediums, and therefore embodied the idea of the restless creator constantly seeking new forms of expression. His work speaks to the strength of the human spirit.

That is why his work demands such prices. You may say, "But I could make that!!"

Maybe you could, maybe you couldn't. Regardless, you probably aren't, and that is why Picasso is a genius and you are not. Secondly, if you WERE to make work like Picasso, that wouldn't count, because Picasso was making this work at a time when no one else was. He was an originator. You, on the other hand, are making work at a time when modern styles have completely saturated the human mindset. It would be easier for you to make this kind of art because you live in a time when it is all around. Picasso was living in a time when it wasn't, and that makes all the difference.

Picasso was a very famous painter, mayb because he was famous many people want to buy his paints so like they can have something that a famous painter created, a unique piece of art in the world :)

Hope ot helps
