Position:Home>Visual Arts> What would u react if ur teacher told u anime isnt art?

Question:"anime isnt art, it is something else" by my fashion teacher
"you need to find your own style instead of drawing/copying anime" by computer imaging art teacher. well anime is made up of line, shapes, pattern and so on, it has the elements of art, what would this something else be then if its not art,
one of my work was not allowed to be in the gallery of art because it looked like anime.
i have stoped copying anime for 6 years, ive been drawing my own character. my art teachers claim that anime is cartoonish, "you need to draw from real life." i actually do draw from life, i'm aware of that an professional anime artist must know how to draw realistic art and i am trying. one thing i knowtice from drawing anime is that, most anime work require to be realistic, such as the background, the shading, the body language/sometime. i also find taht anime artist do a better job in an art class then those who doesnt draw anime. lastly i find anime is one of those complex art, not easy to draw.

Ask your fashion teacher what the '"something else"' that anime is. When she tries to give you an answer, ask her how she would feel if someone said that fashion wasn't art. Tell her how it improves your designing techniques and abilities from the constant need to create clothes and costumes for your drawings.
There are so many different styles of anime. Your computer imaging teacher is an ignorant person, as is your fashion teacher, who has no right to judge art. It would physically be impossible for you to draw exactly like, oh, say, Rumiko Takahashi. You'll always have your little tendencies and your art will always be "evolving," if you will. Allow yourself to be influenced by the many wonderful techniques and styles in order to develop your own style, though it sounds like you already have.
Don't change who you are.

well okay, one, yes, anime is art. that's why they teach it in art schools. but two, maybe your teachers are also trying to get you to expand your style and training a bit, trying to get you to try different kinds of art; it doesn't mean you have to give up anime, but it's always a plus to be able to draw 'realistically' too - it will strengthen your anime skill, in the end.

Well, it is art. But if I compared a Salvador Dali painting to an anime man, I would probably like the Salvador Dali painting more. That's just me, though.

Okay, I want you to tell that teacher that everything is art. Words are art, movements are art, and anime is definitely art. Art is passion, and if you have a passion for anime, it's art. Don't listen to crazy people. Do what you like.

anime is not art.... its for weirdos

i would be thinking " this person does not know anime"
yes, anime in some ways are realistic, but the characters and how they look are not.

THEN THE TEACHER DOES NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT KNOW ART !! >=( ... ANIME HAS BEEN AROUND A LONG TIME.. AND MAYBE SHE SHOULD LEARN MORE ABOUT THE HISTORY BEFORE SAYING STUPPIIDD GARBAGE LIKE THAT >=(.. ANIME IS THE BESSSSSST ART IN MY OPINION.. <33.. i'd bee sooo pissedddd maaan.

hahaha, she is too cool, SYKE, anime consist of anatamy, figure drawing, shading, clothes techure, and many other things, i know this girl in my class that can draw an anime character in any figure, SHE IS A GOD. and she's only lke sixteen, dood, that teacher maybe very...... ...... poopy.

;p

I wouldn't listen to her/him because it is an art. And if someone gets good enough at it, it can turn into a career for them. I draw anime myself, and I agree with you. It is NOT easy. Art teachers just think that because it is cartoonish that is not something that people would take seriously. My art teacher was the same way, she told me that anime is too cartoonish and that no one would even care about it during the art show. I was observing people observing my anime pieces at the art show and a lot of people liked it. Some of them even knew who the characters were right away, and showed other people the pieces. And my philosophy on art is, if you are interested in a specific art style, no matter what it is... then stick with it. Go with what interests you. Artists are there OWN PERSON. They may be guided by art teachers, but in the end... their own style is what matters most.

Anime characters pretty much look the same. It's a simple abstract like style derived for simplicity. Tear drop head, water melon eyes, triangle for nose, spikes for hair, special colored hair and eyes, and wallah another anime character.

obviously it's still "art" even a scribble is "art"

But what your teacher means it good art. Art that takes lots of skill and you have to expand your mind to take in realism. The problem is Anime artists are to sucked into their beliefs of something should look like. Anime artist made their own simplistic set of rules to what something should look like, for example the nose they think should be a triangle, and maybe to holes for a nostril, they are unwilling to accept all the bumps, and different textures, and actually proportions of a real nose. That is probably why your art teachers are mad.

Now lets go back to when I said "good art". o make good art you have to have an open mind to many different things, many different styles of art. Unfortonetly anime artists are usually stuck in their little formulas and such for what they think something should look like.

I'm not saying you should completely give up anime and move on to other things. Go ahead and draw anime to yourself or with friends if you really enjoy it that much. But when your art teacher tells you your assignment, don't jsut focus on how you can turn it animeish. Focus on the actual new things she/he is trying to teach you.

Be open minded

Well I'd probably tell my teacher that anime may not be art to her. But in my opinion it is art. Also, anime styles aren't all the same. There is always the fact that the eyes are drawn differently and their is always something unique among different anime series.
