Question:I have to write an essay on how the use of black and white instead of colour in a photograph, can help make the photograph appear abstract.

The only thing I can think of is that people don't seen in black and white, which makes black and white images look abstract to us.

ANY IDEAS? PLEASE HELP!

I would appretiate any ideas, comments, suggestions, anything please!

My photography teacher had one rule to turn a typical photo into a unique photo. I use it in framing every photo I shoot. The rule is this....

"Always shoot a normal object with a different view."

This means strange angles, different lighting, and different (or lack of) colors in the photo.

Don't know how much this will help, but it might be worth a note.

That's about it really.

Good luck with the other 100 sentences.

Black and white contrast against each other making certain objects stand out more.

Time is at a standstill.

black and white is an awesome medium in photography

"which makes black and white images look abstract to us."
actually i disagree with this completely -

if anything b&w can make your photos crystal clear with a clarity that is breathtaking. look at Ansel Adams' work if you want to see what i mean

because your eyes are not distracted by color you can see details you would not normally notice. it can be amazing how shadows and light are so 'in your face' in b&w and perhaps this is what your teacher is looking for.

taking photos of details.
tree bark with strong light and shadows - a piece of wooden fence etc (wood is one of my favorite subjects - if the pic is really close up where you lose a sense of what it actually is - it appears 'abstract'

in a color pic you would still know what it is regardless of how close - in black and white you can lose yourself in the design of the object in the pic

just my opinions of course but i think b&w is a Fine Art when it comes to photography
