i know that he liked to draw tired muscles.
the ballarina slouching has just finished performing while the one fixing her glove is preparing to go.

that's about as much as i can get from this picture. is there anything else.

It's been rumored that Degas did not like women and put them in painful poses for his paintings. The Ballerina's is one of them.

There is the difference in light and space between the ballerinas backstage and the ballerinas onstage. You should also note the way that the dark vertical shapes of the curtains and scenery break up the horizontal composition. The arms of the ballerinas also serve as compositional devices. They direct the eye around the canvas.

I am doubting that this painting is actually by Degas, compare it with these, the signature doesn't look right to me.
