Black is technically the absence of color.

Colors as you see them are reflections. Light is composed of every color of the rainbow and each color of light has it's own wavelength. When you see orange it is because the orange object before you is reflecting orange light. When you see white, the white object is reflecting all colors. When you see black, the black object is reflecting no color.

It is an absence of color, it absorbs all light and projects no spectrum.
