To begin with, it always helps to be able to draw/be good with colour, so visual art is a very good subject to partake in. In addition, you will need to know the basics on scales and ratios and such so maths as well. You will need to do a course for interior design, so a university or a college, best bet it while you’re doing that course try to get yourself some work experience within an interior design company. Even if you just do filling, eventually the people you are working for with help you with your career. You’d be surprised how many people have no problems with letting students go work experience. And to get work experience ring some interior design companies (use your white/yellow pages) and ask if they would take you on for work experience. Make sure you know who you need to be talking to, don’t just say ‘can I please speak to the manager’ find out their name and a little bit about their business. That will show that you’re generally interested in their business and want to do well in the industry. And as for salary, it all depends on the clients you have, and the level of work that you can come up with. The better your work, the more known it will become and the most clients (and money) you will earn.

well you have to go to a school first... and get your license. Also when your an interior designer you don't get a salary its basically how many clients you have at that moment.. Start looking at art schools and what one you are interested in. I hopefully will be attending savannah of art and design in a year or two

You should check out some of the courses at the colleges around you.
You can get a 2 year degree, or even go farther with a 3 year degree in fine arts
