Position:Home>Visual Arts> Making a snow globe as a figurative symbol for English class?

Question:I am using two small plastic birds hanging from the top to symbolize freedom, red glitter to symbolize the blood spilt to gain that freedom. But the actual globe portrays that the birds arent truly free, but still contained in the bigger picture. What type of liquid am i supposed to use in making a snowglobe, and how can i make the two birds hang so that they will not come off when it is shaken. Thanks for the help.

Just simply use water.
as long as the materials your using aren't dissolveable in it, such as paper.

hot glue should do the trick for the birds.
that holds no matter what.
maybe have them suspended from fishing line? that would be pretty cool.

great idea by the way!

I would check this site out, it's very helpful!

Oh and the symbolizem, I love it!

You can use thin wire that doesn't bend easily and stick it to the base and then stick it through the birds. It will look like they are flying and you don't have to figure out how to "hang" them from the globe w/o glue marks ruining your picture.

Snow Globe Instructions Difficulty: Easy
Things You’ll Need:
Acrylic Paints
Glitter
Hot Glues
Polymer Clays
Snow Globes
Baby Food Jars
Eyebrow Tweezers
Mineral Oils
Canning Jars
Clear Jars
Glass Storage Jars
Silicone Sealants
Step 1:
Use a clean glass jar with a lid.

Step 2:
Choose a clean object to put inside the globe, or make your own. Plastic, aluminum or baked polymer clay are ideal for wet environments.

Step 3:
Hot-glue the object to the inside of the lid.

Step 4:
Boil two to three eggs and peel the shells off.

Step 5:
Use tweezers to remove the skin that sticks to the insides of the shells. That skin will float in your globe if you don't remove it.

Step 6:
Crush the shells to form snow and put it in the jar.

Step 7:
Fill the jar with mineral oil. Allow room for the object, which will displace some of the oil.

Step 8:
Squeeze a strip of silicone sealer around the threads of the lid.

Step 9:
Screw the lid on tight. You may want to paint it.

You might be able to get mini birds already inside of a little cage from a crafting store and just put them on the inside of the globe

use water & fishig line to hang the birds.
