theres a home made chemical volcano lava mix.

the volcano would look great as an island on a platform about 2' x 2' feet, make a frame work out of card board boxes, and tape and glue together, then a paper mache all over, paint shoreline, green landmass, and gray for the mountain, make sure to leave path from top of volcano to front side of model for lava to flow, like a river trough,

then make home made play dough, and use for tress and boulders and hills

paint anything and add and trinkets like houses or boats and animals,

test different batches of lava for color and thickness to flow well,

could add motor and sound effects for rumble, like rumble pack for game controller,

for this you could make a section plane/ cutout of back part of mountain and place glass or plexiglass and place lava chemicals at bottom of volcano instead of top,
