This is a very difficult thing to do these jobs go to cambridge graduates with 1st class Art History degrees.

If you are very beautiful (all the girls in the big galleries are beautiful) and well spoken then perhaps you might have a chance but these are very highly sought after jobs!

Generally the people that work in these galleries are either middle or upper class. I have hardly been to any gallery with working class staff. I think this is because the people who buy art are very wealthy and like to deal with there own kind when money is concered. I am working class myself but as an artist this doesn't affect me as much as I have no real contact with my buyers

I know lot's of people with 1st class Art degrees who can't get this kind of work. Often you need a degree and then to do an unpaid internship for 6 months to a year to even get an interveiw.
Perhaps you could apply to a small gallery with no big artists but even this is over subscribed.

I am sorry if this is disheartening but the art world is a very elitist place.

Good Luck

The poster above is right but only about the top level galleries in london. You should try going for a job in a small gallery. Do you have any admin office experiance this maybe transferable. London is as good a bet as any to try for this work due to the sheer volume of galleries.
