Go on all the online sites if you have time.

I recall that the Mona Lisa was his "favorite" painting and he took it everywhere with him , refining it and adding to it.

There was speculation that She is a he in drag,or himself in female form.

The raising of the horizon on one side of the painting add's to her posture and presence,Try looking at an image of this painting and covering the lower horizon upto the same level and see what occurs in your eyes. Or vice versa.

It is the expression on her face that adds to the Enigma, like he was deliberately playing a joke on the viewer and doubling the pranks score by mocking that viewers ignorance.

Hence her enigmatic smile.

I would have to say that i have viewed this painting from differing thoughts, was she a mistress,a proud new mother,a secret wife, etc etc,but i always am left with that doubt as to who she is and what she represents, and perhaps that's the Enigma her smile is meant to represent.
Go figure if you can,but enjoy the journey,as the destination may never be achieved. :-)

Why don't you try this?
